Most people’s impression of Beirut is that it’s dangerous, ugly and war-torn. In fact, this reputation is twenty years out of date. Today it’s a beautiful, safe, fun place to visit. After wanting to go for years, I finally went in May 2011 and I now have the pictures to prove what a fabulous city it is.
The ‘Downtown’ area seemed empty when I took these pictures. A Lebanese person later told me this was because “Lebanese people don’t go out until the afternoon”.
Look closely and you can see the Lebanon Mountains at the end of the street.
